I met my dad and step mom in Birmingham, AL for a little visit on Saturday. While we were there we decided to try out Gatos & Beans. Gatos & Beans is a cat café in Hoover, AL. What is a cat café? Well, it is a place where you can go get some coffee and then sit in a room with a bunch of kittens and just enjoy your time!
As we talked to one of the people who runs the place, we found out what this place was about. Gatos & Beans opened in June 2020 and takes in as many cats as they can from a local shelter in Hoover. They currently house 12 cats, aged 6 months to 8 years, that are all up for adoption. By the time I go next, there could be a whole new set of cats there!
There is a $10 admission price to get into the room where the cats are for about an hour. With the $10 admission, you et your choice of either a drip coffee (hot or iced), soft drink, tea (hot or iced), or a water. There are some other coffees that can be purchased at a small price. for a local place, the prices of the extra drinks is not bad. I think the most expensive coffee was about $5.50. Currently, due to COVID regulations it is about a 45 minute session so that they can clean the place before the next group of people enter. You can make reservations by going through the "make a reservation" tab on their website, but they also take walk-in.
When we walked in, everyone was very pleasant and welcoming! I got an iced drip coffee which had an earthy taste, but it was just what I wanted. It didn't taste like it had any artificial flavors. My dad got an iced mocha latte and he seemed to enjoy it. My step mom didn't say much about her Cubano, but she seemed to enjoy it. The cats were so friendly and we all loved being around the cats and drinking our coffee. It was an experience unlike any other and I will gladly go back again at some point.
